Expats Explain Why They Settled in Cabrera and Show The Land They Purchased

Expat Land Purchase

Expat Land Purchase

Hi Guys.  Barry in DR again.  As I talk to people all over the world about Cabrera Dominican Republic one of the most common questions I hear is “What is it really like for expats in Cabrera”.  In one way, our entire blog reflects what life here is like here for us, but I thought it might be useful if you could hear why other expats selected Cabrera after searching the world for a more affordable and safe place to retire.  Easiest way for me to do that is simply to conduct some interviews on video and let you form you own opinions.  In today’s interview videos we talk to Judy and Richard from Houston Texas.  They decided to move to Cabrera in early 2012 and their experience is fairly typical.  In these two videos they talk about the process of finding and purchasing a homesite overlooking the ocean.  Along the way they describe some of the benefits of their move.In this video we visit with Judy and Richard as they show us there 2.5 acre ocean property and share their thoughts on their purchase.

In this next video Judy and Richard continue explaining their decision process and how easy it is to live a healthier and more relaxed life on the island.

Let me know if you enjoy hearing from other expats about their experience in the Cabrera Dominican Republic area.  For now, it’s Barry in the DR.

One might be very surprized at what things cost. Perhaps the more inmportant question should be what will you do when the currency starts to collapse and prices for food, heat, shelter start going off the board for a large part of the population. Your question is a good one but it’s implying that your still not understanding what’s right around the corner of most major nations. Once again not saying the DR is the right place for anyone but sit back and analyze your comment because if you do you see where I’m heading on my answer. Costs here are WAY LESS than anything offered in the western nations. We live on just under 2000 dollars a month and that covers office rent, home, food including eating out once in a while, fuel, and almost a 100% organic diet. Our health care plan is way above anything even offered in the states and for both of us comes to 740. US a year. Hows that compairing so far. One shouldn’t give up before even putting an effort to gather information and you really don’t need to see the whole staircase to take the first step. Sorry it took so long to get to it but I was on the road the past week. As always hope this helps.
