Just arriving to enjoy some lunch under the trees at volly ball beach

Hi Guys its Barry in DR. Welcome to the second edition of Tour Time. In efforts to answer our readers’ requests of wanting to see more of the back country and farm regions I decided this might make for a good second article of Tour Time.

While everyone’s eyes were glued to the soon to become factual comex default and sharing the painful articles about folks unable to convert their paper holdings to physical (Switzerland) I decided before picking up our next guests to enjoy some lunch followed by a back roads journey starting in Rio San Juan and ending up in Abreu.

Enjoyed a plate of fish, rice, beans and a beer all for way less than you'd be paying for a quarter pounder and fries. By the way all organic too.

The town of Rio San Juan is located about 15 Km west of Cabrera down the main road or as we say la Carretera.

What's the hurray think I'll walk over and grab another beer before continuing.

A quaint little town hosting a beautiful lagoon (La Gri Gri) is one of only two on the north coast and makes this unique town well worth a look. The population of Rio San Juan is approximately 16,500 people with a gendure mix slightly more male than female. The town has some decent restaurants and cafes throughout its perimeters.

OK All good things come to an end. Lets have a look at Rio San Juan.

Rio San Juan hosts a variety of nationalities residing there with the largest group of expats being of French decent. The remaining balance would be made up of Canadian, American and several European countries.

As of late expats looking for a better way of life from Russia have been coming on the scene and considering Rio San Juan as a possible choice to settle in.

Rio San Juan does market for tourism more than Cabrera but by no means can it be compared to the likes of other major tourist destinations on the north coast like Puerto Plata, Sosua, and Cabarete. By far the major industry is farming as is common throughout our whole region. Rio San Juan is much the same as Cabrera as there is no real exporting done and most of what’s produced is either sold or bartered as is the norm for our way of life in the entire region.

Gri Gri Lagoon is one of only two lagoons located on the North Coast. Surrounded by Cafe's restaurants and little stores make for a lovely area.

Sit back relax grab a beverage and come join me for our Rio San Juan to Abreu ride along the back roads of the beautiful and peaceful north coast of the DR.

Entering the end of our journey. Welcome to Abreu.

Nice article showing back road areas and communities …. looks nice , I should bring my commercial juicer when I come, you think?! My mind needs more to compute the possibilities there I am sure. I forgot your answer regarding places to play billiards there….. one of my favorite past times. I cannot imagine bringing that on a plane! Do you move by boat and shipping containers? Please let me know when you are ready for my visit. I am thinking July may be nice……… BTW what do you mean by ” solvent ” regarding criteria to come there to live and obtain residency? Does it matter if you have debt ( would not if I sell my house) or does it mean you cannot be bankrupt? Ok, probably more questions than you may like to answer in one email but I had to ask. Oh, one more important question! How much cash does one bring to get the ball rolling regarding starting the process of citizenship there?? Thank you Barry ! Enjoy those mango ….. and beach etc. Chris

Hi Chris, Love the questions but try setting up a time to call. Like you said lots of questions but one thing for sure I’m there for shooting some stick. My fav. Past time oh yea along with ice cold beer. If you can stand average tables outdoors it a deal at 5 cents a game you can’t lose, on the cost of things let leave the eight ball till we meet.
