Cabrera Hardware Store Is A Lifesaver And A Great Place To Shop – Ferreteria El Palacio

Potential expats all ask similar questions. One common question is whether they will be trapped in some backwater, third world country without any of the comforts of home. While it is true that there are some pretty remote and backward little towns scattered out throughout the Dominican Republic, Cabrera is not one of those places. Take for example our biggest hardware store in Cabrera… Ferreteria El Palacio. By any small town standards, this two story hardware store is first class and a god-send when you need something for your home in a hurry.

True, it’s not Home Depot or Lowes, but I think you will agree that this hardware store covers most of the day to day bases. And, of course if you need something they do not have, you are only a short drive away to larger towns and only a couple hours away from the biggest cities in the Dominican Republic.  For most expats living in and around Cabrera, the Ferreteria El Palacio will have the majority of what you need for your home, and they can probably get whatever they don’t have in stock within a day or so.

In this video I will show you some of the items on sale in Ferreteria El Palacio… our Cabrera hardware store. You will see that they have a wide selection of paints, tools, hardware, home improvement, and kitchen supplies. You will also see that they offer a rather extensive line of hand made local furniture.. from rustic to more refined. And since these pictures were snapped, they have opened a second location just to feature a greatly expanded line of handmade furniture and accessories. Ferreteria El Palacio will definitely become one of your frequent stops in town, and as you will see in the video, language is no problem.

I recently moved to Cabrera thanks to DR Escapes. I can tell you that I love the hardware store. The folks are extremely friendly and we’ve been able to find many supplies that made life feel more like home! Great post, Barry.

Yea it’s a good store for the convenience they do have just about all one would ever need. The furniture is really natural but the family goes to the country where they actually make it. Funny thought we had a couple that came to visit about 8 months ago. They were in the custom furniture business so we took them to where they make it and it blew their mind. They saw bedroom sets that they themselves said would be going for somewhere in the range of thirty plus. They would have sold it for under 3500 US for the whole set. You should have seen the look on their faces.
