Yesterday I was scheduled to be in the Capitol. I was making a custom set of seat covers for our Honda Pilot. Late Monday I received the “we’re good to go call” stating that the template was ready. After a couple of questions regarding the logo size and color followed up by a confirmation photo I was comfortable enough making the 3 hour trip early Tuesday morning. That’s when things started to change.
I should have thought about it a bit longer when Liane mentioned she’d like to go for the ride and keep me company. Liane already knew Johnny was going and right there is when I should have caught on something’s fishy. We departed our place promptly at 7:00AM and headed towards Nagua to pick up what I thought was going to be only Johnny.
OK it’s early and since I haven’t had my second coffee yet was still half a sleep. Taking the early morning ride which by the way I love at that time of day I was sipping on my coffee and quietly enjoying some Jose Jose tunes. He’s always been one of my favorite ballad singers. Like they say they don’t make them like they used to. Guess I’m showing my age a bit but I’ll save that subject for another post someday.
About 30 minutes later we pulled into Nagua right on time. Johnny’s already waiting outside wide awake as he’s a morning person unlike me. Hop in we have a long ride I said. Noticing that he left the door open I couldn’t help but ask aren’t you going to lock up. He says Anna will take care of it so I start pulling away. Wait for Anna! Johnny says with a heightened voice, so I brake and back up. That was the second time that I should have caught on somethings fishy… really fishy.
Anna bright and cheery as always greets Liane and I with a kiss. Right about now I’m getting this feeling in my gut similar to being leery after picking up a couple of hitch hikers on a dark road. We all know the feeling soon as they’ve entered the car you’re sorry you stopped in the first place. The ride continues and eventually we drop off the SUV at the upholstery shop.
Since they needed the car at least four hours for sewing and fitting of the covers we had some time to kill. This company makes their seat covers much the same as you would have a made to measure suit done. By the way for front and back seat covers custom embroidered logo head rests and storage compartment covers the whole deal cost me slightly over 95.00US.
Well at least four hours to kill. I mentioned we could get something to eat and that idea took off like a lead balloon… Johnny stood quiet Hum??? When you mention food and Johnny’s quiet that was my third clue. Then that same piece of lead hit me smack upside the head. In stereo the ladies mention we could all go to the mall. Their excuse was its air conditioned. Funny we never needed air conditioning for over six years and all of a sudden… its air conditioned???
By now I was well aware of why we had the company to begin with. Both Liane and Anna are not shopaholics by any means and since we’re taking off to another part of the country for one a week holiday she wanted some new things. Johnny and I spent most of our time in the automotive sections of the various stores. We agreed to just text each other and go on our separate ways for most of the afternoon.
All’s quiet for about three hours when I get a text from Liane that she’s just about ready. Anna was too so we made plans to meet around the check out and then we’ll grab a late lunch and back to pick up the SUV.
The following pictures say it all. Liane had over 30 items and her partner in crime Anna was running a close second. You should have seen the look of accomplishment they both had when we met. Now Johnny and I look at each other somewhat shocked but were cool with it as they don’t get the chance to visit many big name stores often. Cabrera is at least two hours away from most. Looks like both fish were caught cleaned and delivered. Johnny on one side of the freezer and myself on the other.
As I look at my thin wallet in antipathy I would like to make a couple of points before closing this post. First point anyone who thinks that the DR (and several other similar countries) don’t have multitudes of shopping options food options excellent restaurants in fact options for everything doesn’t know SHIT!!! And right now the weight of my wallet is proof of that.
Second point Johnny and I got tired of waiting so we went outside and had a cigarette on a couple of occassions. We both got tired of counting the Mercedes, Porsche’s, Lamborghini’s and Ferrari’s driving up and down Sir Winston Churchill Ave. So if you think that people in other countries are all hurting and have no disposable income then you don’t know SHIT!
Third point if you think living in the land of the so called free where you’re being penalized for performance in this day and age is the right way to go? Guess what you’re correct because that is a choice. A choice you have to make for yourself.
While the first two examples were based on fact the third is based on choice. I stand by what’s been mentioned in several of my prior posts. There are only choices no right or wrong… if you don’t like something just make another choice.
Respecting everyone’s right to choose is one thing however making good choices is quite another.
If you think remaining without any backup plan B is the correct choice considering what’s waiting right around the corner? If you still feel not having any form of exit strategy along with a second residency coupled to an offshore account is not the correct way to proceed well then I can say with certainty one last time. You don’t know SHIT! Until next time this is Barry in DR.
